WHY WE LOVE MUSHROOMS

We looovvee mushrooms! Medicinal mushrooms are not a new concept; in fact, they have been around for thousands of years and for centuries, these fungi have been used for greater longevity, to promote good health, enhance immunity and improve cognitive function. Also supporting the adrenal glands puts their stress relieving properties to work.

A cool mushroom fact is that, in the event of a killer asteroid, or any other devastating world catastrophe, mushrooms could actually save humanity from extinction! Say whhaat!?. Mushrooms are even proven to be more closely related to animals than to plants! They just can’t move around like them hehe.

Mushrooms are intelligent and this is proven by their own behaviour! Take the Cordyceps mushroom for example; the Cordyceps mushroom attaches itself to an insect and feeds on its host, it then takes over its host’s body and makes it climb to the highest possible point it can find, the Cordyceps fungus will then emerge from the insect's head and release its spores, then infecting other insects. This sounds like something out of a movie, right?! But, its true! (No insects are harmed from any of our Cordyceps products.)

Waaay back when… thousands of years ago in Ancient Egypt, mushrooms were regarded as the plant of immortality and were typically only consumed by pharaohs and nobles, hence they were given the name "sons of the gods". Over in China, ancient texts dated back to 100bce show that various mushrooms had abilities to treat diseases like cancer and many other conditions. In Japan, the Grifola Frondosa mushroom, also known as ‘Hen of the Woods’,’ Maitake’ or ‘Ram’s Head’ and other mushrooms alike were seen to be worth their weight in silver due to their varying amazing qualities. These mushrooms sure do get around the globe doing their thang! We wish we could go back to these simpler times.

Mushrooms contain compounds with medical benefits by the hundreds. Just a few of these are boosting the immune system, anti-tumour compounds, antifungal, antiviral, and antibacterial properties. They also contain vitamins, minerals and fibre and are high in antioxidants, beta glucan and polysaccharides. Scientists are finding more beneficial compounds in fungi every year which is amazing for humankind and is why we are so passionate about sharing the magic of fungi that our wonderful mother nature provides. Spread the shroom news wide!
